PERFORMANCE

The True zero tailswing JCB 55Z-1 mini digger is incredibly manoeuvrable even in the most confined spaces because there’s no rear overhang outside the footprint of the tracks.

The efficient 2.2-litre Perkins 404D-22 engine delivering 35.7kW at 2000rpm powers the 48Z providing the optimum fuel efficiency. Tonne for tonne of material moved, the 48Z is a leader in its class when it comes to fuel efficiency.

Tracking performance is smooth and precise, ensuring high dozer capabilities and fast travel times. To increase productivity, our auto kickdown motors automatically adapt to changes in terrain, increasing productivity and reducing operator fatigue.

Your JCB 55Z-1 compact excavator generates huge bucket tearout forces of 38kN and dipper forces of up to 22kN. What’s more, by perfectly matching our boom and dipper, JCB have created optimal dig end geometry, helping you to work and load in confined areas with ease.

Bucket rotation is a huge 181˚, offering great spoil retention during truck loading.

Smooth, precise and balanced multi-functioning is easy with this excavator, courtesy of a premium closed centre hydraulic system that provides improved flow sharing.

EFFICIENCY

Because damage sometimes happens on sites, we use flat glass windows throughout the new JCB 55Z-1 mini digger, as well as 100% steel bodywork, minimising possible replacement costs.

With our class-leading greasing intervals of 500 hours, you can expect minimal downtime. Better still, our new monitor provides alerts on your excavator’s diagnostic status.

Engine revs reduce when the operator’s armrest is raised, improving fuel economy and noise levels. There’s a One-Touch Idle feature that conserves fuel too. Programmable auto idle, meanwhile, can be activated when the controls have been inactive for a period.

Control your 55Z-1 mini’s engine speed for different hydraulic flows by simply cycling through four different power bands: Light, Eco, Heavy and Heavy Plus. This means you can tailor performance to any application.

The patented low-pressure return line circuit further improves fuel efficiency because the pump doesn’t need to overcome a very high pressure before work can start.

Load-sensing hydraulics are standard-fit on this mini digger. This innovative feature means that your hydraulics only consume power on demand, conserving fuel for when you need it most.

SAFETY

The new JCB 55Z-1 mini digger cab is fully ROPS and TOPS compliant. For even more protection to both cab and operator.

JCB’s Safety Lever Lock fully isolates this mini digger’s hydraulic functions to prevent unintended movement.

Our unique 2GO system ensures your mini excavator hydraulics can only be operated in a safe lockable position via two separate inputs.

An overload screen displays a bar chart from green to red, indicating whether the overload point is close or exceeded. Once the limit is passed, the buzzer sounds and the bar flashes to warn the operator.

A large track frame width and low centre of gravity helps the JCB 55Z-1 compact excavator to offer amazing stability.

This powerful JCB small digger offers greater visibility than our outgoing JCB 8045, ensuring easier, safer trench digging and manoeuvring. This is thanks in part to a 70/30 front screen split. While the upper screen swings into an overhead storage position, the lower screen can be removed and stowed inside the cab.

SERVICEABILITY

All dig end and dozer greasing intervals on a JCB 55Z-1 mini digger are best-in-class at 500 hours, thanks to graphite impregnated bronze bushes; needless to say, this saves you time and money. We’ve packaged the bushed kingpost with these machines further reducing overall whole of life cost.

An open frame undercarriage with sloping track legs makes cleaning easier.

There are no plastic external body panels on the new JCB 55Z-1 small excavator; instead there’s 100% high strength pressed steel bodywork.

Colour-coded hydraulic hoses make for easy identification, while dozer hoses are simple to replace because they terminate at the bulkhead.

The wide-opening steel bonnet and external fuel indicator make it easy to fill this mini excavator’s tank from ground level.

Remove two bolts to lift out your digger’s entire cab floor, giving you full access to the main control valve spools, hydraulic connections, and many other components for inspection or replacement.

CONTROL

JCB’s new 55Z-1 mini digger has an even more spacious cab than before, with storage galore, a phone tray, stowage net and a cup holder. The whole area is accessed easily and safely via a large door.

Our new deluxe fully adjustable suspension seating provides great comfort for excavator operators and features independent adjustable positions for the ultimate in ergonomics.

There’s a radio, 12V phone charger and powerful, efficient air conditioning system* with 8 vents completes the picture.

JCB mini excavators boast an innovative new rotary controller and easy touch switches have been specially designed for easy operation. With ergonomic electro-hydraulic dozer control as standard, operators can achieve smooth and precise grading control.

You can alternate quickly between single/hammer and double-acting auxiliary flow functions thanks to a convenient switch in the cab.

JCB’s GPS system “Livelink” is a standard feature in all variants of the 55Z. This provides crucial machine performance data available through a secure medium over the internet and the capability of providing geofencing and machine work restrictions.

You can easily adjust and programme flow settings for specific attachments, with a built in memory to store your settings so that they can be easily retrieved between jobs. Information such as service and machine diagnostics help the operator to keep on top of the status of the machine. Alerts and service interval countdowns will keep you up to date, and always one step ahead of the possibility of downtime.

STRENGTH

With a finite element analysis-designed heavy-duty structure as well as simplified H-frame construction, the undercarriage of this mini digger is both durable and confidence inspiring.

Our clean four-plate dipper design provides added structural strength and durability. The fully robot welded boom and dipper are made of high tensile strength steel, with internal baffle plates in the boom for long-life durability specifically designed to withstand the lateral forces exerted on boom and dipper assemblies.

The heavy-duty kingpost features durable re-bushable pivots to optimise service life. It also provides a safe route for all excavator hoses.

The heavy duty boom cylinder guard gives maximum excavator arm protection, even during the toughest jobs.

We only use trusted premium manufacturers including Perkins engines, Nachi and Bosch-Rexroth hydraulic components and Bridgestone tracks.

The hydraulic system boasts the latest industry technology “O-Ring Face Seal” (ORFS) hydraulic fittings, providing excellent sealing capabilities.
